Hello everyone,
Well, after dealing with panic attacks while commuting from home to work (20 minutes) I am happy to say that they are no longer bothering me. However, I feel as though I still have lots of "leftover" generalized anxiety. It's really subtle, but I tend to feel like my body is always on "hyperalert" and various troubling thoughts come and go throughout the day.
I wonder if anyone else can relate to this sort of "residual" anxiety. I think it's the fatigue of always being in a "hyperalert" state that wears me down the most. Often I'm not even concious of it, but it's effects are felt.
Does anyone know of ways to get over this? I feel a major triumph in overcoming the panic attacks, but the leftover generalized anxiety seems like a larger issue to deal with.

Good for you! I love hearing peoples success! I have residual anxiety also. I feel a little spacey at times and light headed and then my "old" way of thinking would start to worry that an attack was coming. But now I am starting to just push through with the feelings. I would just try to "ignore" yourself.... and say, "I am on my way and this feeling is not going to stop me." Try not to over think about those spells. Just a suggestion: it has been working for me!

It's all about progresive steps to our goals and it sounds like you are well on your way to recovery. I know we are suppose to be in the "Precious Present Moment". Somehow I am not able at this time to do just that when behind the wheel. While driving I am doing my best to calmly breathe, play music to sing by, look at my favorite pictures at red lights, sip bottled water and remember where my destination is. For me, it is all about distraction and keeping busy mentally in the car. Still a work in progress.

this is how i am also. my panic attacks stopped a few years ago, but now i'm just left with this subtle worry and hypochondria. the good thing is i don't freak and run to the ER unless i really think i need to. but, coming from 5 nights a week, its a huge step. but yeah, i prolly have 2-3 panic attacks a year if that. just always worrying and i get nervous when i feel sick, and i'm terrified of throwing up. but, no panic attacks, so i guess thats one plus, lol.

Congrats
I have been panic free for ten days since my trip again to the ER after getting blood pressure reading of 120/78 (The nurse started to lol when i came in) And a ekg that was great it was like a like switch that turn panic off and now its just scary thought the really don't go any higher then that. I went to the doctor because of chest pains and slight swelling of my three fingers(DUHH HEATING PAD ON MY FINGERS FOR EIGHT HRS)The doctor said I was healthy but I do have a little worry but trying to deal with it.

Kappaman, you went to the ER for a blood pressure of 120/78????? I am 38 and my blood pressure is consistently 143/90 even though I am on blood pressure medication. Your blood pressure is almost picture perfect. I would love to have that reading since I feel like I am slowly killing my heart with this blood pressure. Does anyone else have trouble with this blood pressure thing? I just can't get it down and it is a vicious cycle. I worry about it constantly which probably keeps it elevated!

I went to the doctors for a checkup and blood pressure was 148/90.I was anxious. Question is Does the anxiety cause blood pressure to elevate?

Yes, gkay, I believe anxiety does make one's blood pressure elevate! I went to the ER this past August with a reading of 198/94 or 194/98 I can't remember which. But I thought it was high!
Just a few moments before that attack, I was calm and happy inside our new camper reading a history book and thoroughly relaxed and enjoying myself!
