When you are keyed up or anxious do you ever feel a strange anxious type feeling in your chest? I am anxious right now (I'm not sure why) but my chest just feels uncomfortable. I have had my heart checked out recently and it was perfect. This is like the feeling that adrenaline or something else is just sitting in my chest.

Yes...discomfort and pain in my chest is a BIG anxious symptom for me. Sometimes it feels just like a general uneasiness, and sometimes it hurts. I have had tests done also and my heart is great. Tell that to me when I'm moving into panic!

Anyway, the techniques I'm learning in the program (and the occaisonal xanax) helps a lot.
I have to take a plane flight tomorrow, and I'm scare (I know I shouldn't be, but I am) that I'll have a chest pain bout on the plane. I'm not afraid to fly, have done a lot of it over the years. But, this will be my first flight since my panic/anxiety really got a hold of me.
Take care!

I will pray for you on your flight. That is a big phobia of mine. It's not that I am scared of crashing I am afraid of being afraid on the plane. Take a xanax. I was thinking the other day that I bet half of all passengers are on something when they fly! I would be.
I am starting to wonder if the chest discomfort is from hyperventilation syndrome. I don't think I breathe correctly when I am anxious AND I just did a relaxation CD and the feeling went away.

My heart beats fast and it feels like someone is standing on my chest- it's heavy. Had my heart checked too, and it's ok. Just a panic attack that will pass. I've been through many and hated paying the ER copay just to be given a Xanax and sent on my way. I really thought something was wrong. But thankfully, it wasn't.

Familiar here also. Went to the physician c/o same symptoms. Heart pounding to the point you should have been able to see my clothing move, or at least it felt that way and a heavy, tightness in the chest wall. As it turns out indeed it was the chest wall muscle simply tightening. What a workout!
So far, for me the relaxation tape or a reasonable facsimilie thereof works best. Noted in Lucinda's relaxation tape where she walks you through the muscle relaxation and to note where you hold your tension, you will probably find as well that that particular area is key. Try the relaxation tape next time this happens and see if it helps. Practice, practice, practice the breathing and relaxation technique. It won't take long and you will find the more often you practice it, the quicker you will respond positively as time progresses.
