I had my first colonoscopy recently. Everything was fine, except the nurse said I has diverticuli. I freaked out! She said its nothing, that she has it too and so do millions of other people. What are you supposed to do for it, can you get rid of it, before it gets worse? Suzzie

Hey, I have that too! Actually, tons of people have it, and don't even know it. They found mine in a CT scan, and colonoscopy. They are really no big deal, I don't even know I have mine. I eat higher in fiber, and have been fine. Happens mostly to western civizations because we are more meat and less fiber eaters. Just about everybody has it by age 60. Just follow your GI's advice, and live normally. :)

Hello,
I am a nutritionist and my mother was recently diagnosed with diverticulosis(the disease)due to her first attack of inflamation(diverticulitis)! Because she has reached a high stage with this condition, she can no longer eat foods that have seeds or nuts.

If all you have is diverticuli that is not problematic then following this diet advise may be all that you need. It is true that you must eat lots of natural fiber found in fresh fruits and vegetables. Replace processed white bread with whole wheat bread and try to limit fast food. It is also very important to drink lots of water every day. Exercise helps to improve bowel health aswell.

Good luck

Thanks to all of you who responded to my post. I very much appreciate your help.
To NMKBurns;
What does it mean when you just have diverticuli? Does it mean I have the disease or just a few pockets of garbage to clean out? The main part of my anxiety is fear of health issues. I'm really trying to get past all of my fears, but I guess you can see, I'm still working on this. Suzzie

Although this won't completely cure your colon by itself, it would be good to start out with a colon cleanse. Head over to the health food store; there are a number to choose from. The Ultimate Cleanse is a good one from vitacost.com They are usually intended to take for 2-3 weeks and no more than a month at a time.

Then look into green smoothies. A delicious recipe - blend about a cup freshly squeezed OJ, 2-3 ripe, spotted bananas and your choice of a handful of spinach, or some parsley or a few leaves of kale. Add ice if you wish. You can vary the greens day to day. Drink a quart of this every morning and you'll be regular and get fiber and many nutrients fresh right from plant foods. Here's a great guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW5LUkeVA6s

The more fruits and greens you eat, the more your colon will love you. Getting your fiber and nutrients through plant foods will save you time and expense of taking boxed fiber and supplements.

Good to note: input = output. However many full meals a day you eat should match how many BM's you have a day.
