I've decided I need to start driving, I did have a few lessons 10 years ago when I was 17 but for some reason I just gave up, I didn't have any problems driving then and should of stuck at it but now it is a disaster.

I wasn't nervous back then but I sure as hell am now, My OH has took me out twice, once around an industrial estate and today out on the main road for a 5 mile journey, and I was so nervous my legs are still actually shaking at the min I'm not afraid to admit I was scared $hitless even on an empty road, Yes she told me exactly what to do. but do u ever get that anxious your mind just totally shuts down and blanks out It just totally went blank and that in itself scared me, it may even have been a panic attack.

I really do need to drive but am so anxious and nervous and have little or no confidence and could happily just forget about it but would be so angry with myself,

any help much appreciated

Celeron, just keep trying. You can do it. Take baby steps at first. Yes, you were scared, but did do a small drive, right? Use that as a starting point and work on it. Positive talk for yourself. :) If you feel the panic coming on, talk to yourself about it. Do you have the program?

Keep on it, it will be worth it. Talk yourself through those panicky times. I imagine the freedom you'll gain for yourself by driving will be more than worth it. Good luck! :)

In addition to Lucinda's program I found the resources at www.DrivingFear.com to be great for my fear of driving. I don't have an issue with it anymore at all.
