I'm new to the program, only on session 2, and already feeling like giving up. I have not left my house since june of last year. Scared to drive or even walk out my front door. My boyfriend of 8 years has to do everything for me and my 2 boys (ages 14 & 10). I feel like i've let them all down. I have at least one panic attack daily, some worse than others. I also have some other medical problems that also make my anxiety worse. It does help listening to the cds knowing i'm not the only one who's life has been affected by this horrible anxiety monster. I just feel trapped even though i now have these wonderful tools that will help, i'm afraid it's not going to work. Will this program really help me get my life back?
Little Italy, I am so sorry you are going through this. Please keep the program up. It truly changed my life.
These panic attacks are not going to hurt. They are as bad as they are right now. As you go through the program and practice and do the workbook, they will get less frequent and not be as controlling over you. Practice the deep breathing. Listen to the relaxation cd. When it tells you to picture yourself doing what you want to do, picture yourself walking out the door of your house and standing on the porch with the warm sunshine on your face, hearing the sounds of the neighborhood and feeling the gentle breezes and smelling the fresh air. You are picturing this in a completely relaxed state and when you go through that door, you will remember how you feel picturing yourself doing it. You will be able to do it.
Once you realize that the panic won't hurt you and you learn the positive self-talk, you will not believe how much your life will change.
I was in a very bad and anxious place before I got this program. I actually feel like I am back to living again. I have a 12 year old son who has his mom back and is learning to deal with stress and anxiety from me. Your sons will be okay and you will be okay. Trust me - this program will work, but it also will take work on your part. Make it your top priority now. You can help your family after your help yourself. Good Luck to you.

LisaLisa,
I really like what you said about "you can help your family after you help yourself" because you can often times feel guilty about having to take attention off your family in order to get through this and get healthy. But in the long run you are doing your family a favor. This is my first week on the program and I know in my heart that this is where my focus needs to be right now. On the things that are going to make me better. But I do have a beautiful 1 year old who is hard to resist. She does very well keeping herself occupied during the day which give me time to work on myself. But I feel guilty about working on myself. I think that's one of my major problems within my anxiety. We don't think we are worthy of certain things which causes us to deny ourselves the very things that will make us happy. Thank you for the encouragement. I will remember "I can help my family, once I help myself".

Thank you SO MUCH LisaLisa for your reply. It really helps to here from other people. I want my boys to have there mom back. My oldest has been angry at me since i got fibromyalgia in 2004, and since then my anxiety has got worse and he blames me for it. I know he's young and doesnt understand it still hurts when he tells me he wishes things could be like they were before and that it's all my fault. I feel as if this program is my last chance to get my life back and i dont want to fail. Thanks again, you've given me some hope that this may help me.
