I am finding it hard to recognize the negative thoughts and replacing with positive ones. I have been off my anti-depressant for two weeks because my doctor put me on new ones and they did not work and I don't see him again till this week, I am considering not taking any, I do take an anxiety med, just a small dose, but I really want to feel good. It has been so long since I have felt human, I don't even remember when it was.......years............I need some positive reinforcements.

Faith,

How about using a simple ID for negative thoughts...if a thought makes you feel bad, it's Negative. Then, post one here and let everyone give you some suggestions for restructuring?

I'll go first: "My throat hurts...uhO, what if it's something very serious!?"

Let's work together- Carolyn

"Sore throats are pretty common and are usually nothing serious. I may be just coming down with a slight cold. I'll take some advil and if it's it's still bothering me in a few days I can always have my doctor take a look at it."

Hi All,
It has been months since i posted as I have started the program in March, followed it religiously, and finished in early August.
I can say I am a much better person for sure. It is hard to believe but patience and repitition is the best remedy. we got this way by acting negatively for days, weeks, even years. It was hard to change at first but with time........for me about 6 months......my life is changing for the positive b/c i understand the causes and ways to be a better person.
I still have some bad days but they do not last long b/c i do not let them. Each day, I do 3 things which take about 15 minutes each:

-morning meditation: deep breathing in between positive thoughts and i always end with a positive thought or something i am thankful for.

-scare session: i intentionally scare myself for 15 minutes with bad thoughts, terrible outcomes, past mistakes. Then I followup with positive/rational self-talk to desensitize myself.

-deep breathing before bedtime followed by nightly prayers.

The deep breathing is amazing; your body actually recognizes that this is a signal to relax and calm down whether stressed or time for bed.

I will not go back to my old self of worrying b/c i have worked too hard and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Another good thing is that we can always go back to the program and review if need be.

The birth of my son is scheduled for tomorrow and I am glad that I can welcome him into the world as a confident, caring, and smiling daddy.

Faith, I'm having a hard time turning negative thoughts into positive self-talk, too. We've been negative so much of our lives that turning negative thoughts around to positive takes practice. Thank goodness we have these chat rooms where we can ask other people for ideas! Sometimes other people can see things better than we can. Just as a head's up, I'm taking the Positive Mood supplements offered with this program and they've made a dramatic difference in how I feel. I've got more energy and my moods are more stable. Any little bit helps when it comes to solutions!

OK, here is a negative, that I cannot live with today. I am not feeling very positive today and I will explain. My husband, (and I realize now that people cannot make me anxious), but, my husband who is district manager over about 5 fast food restaurants in the area is having problems, especially the one store they cannot keep workers and he has asked me this before and I told him no, he wants me to "help him out" and go and work in this store until he can get the problem solved, or he is in danger of loosing his job. He puts in this way, would I help him with anything if he really needed help, well I said yes, but I also knew what was next, he was going to ask again that I work and I told him no, so then he says, OK, so you will help me only when it suits you, I am feeling very frustrated now and cannot deal with it. How do I change this around to a positive feeling or thought or whatever. Help
