a lot of times when i'm super stressed and anxiety seems to come on full throttle, i make a list (or re-read one i've already made) of goals i want to accomplish within this year that i just can't do with anxiety. i find it motivates me to keep fighting thru this... here's my list:

1) successfully complete a half-marathon
2) buy a house
3) have 60-80 pages of a book written (one i started and enjoy working on, but just never take the time to write anymore)
4) go on a trip (whether by plane or car) with absolutely no anxiety - i want to enjoy the entire trip from start to finish
5) help one other person get thru their struggle with anxiety

what are some of your goals or aspirations?

My main goal for the year is to feel comfortable with my new sense of calmness and lack of fear, celebrate the new me, and appreciate what other people add to the mix of life.

Isnt it amazing how individuals with anxiety are such accomplished people and have high goals? I think its really interesting. Some of my goals include finding a full time job that I enjoy, getting into a daily exercise routine, socializing with more people, becoming more independent.

This is exactly what I needed this morning, Starr- thanks!

I agree with SpecialK, it is rather interesting that people with anxiety tend to be hard-working, high-achieving, goal-setting individuals (it's too bad perfectionism seems to be another common trait:().

I've been a list-maker my entire life and one year my mom actually gave me a book called Lists to Live By- it's pretty good.

So here's my list:
Find a church to attend REGULARLY (most meet every Sunday, right?;*)
Safely and comfortably tapper off ALL prescription meds.
Physically feel healthy.
ENJOY my academic sabbatical and embrace the possibility of an entirely new career that makes me happy.
Let go of perfectionism and procrastination due to the aforementioned challenge!!!
Maintain motivation.
Find the "Love of Life" I once took for granted.
Recognize life is an adventure not to be controlled and enjoy the journey!

Here's to new beginnings for all of us!

Hey, at the start of this year I learned that biblically the number 7 is the number of completion and 8 is the number of new beginnings. I ordered this program in December of '07 and began it in Jan.'08.

Well my goals include to get over my emetophobia and anxiety disorder. I would also like to be able to drive long distances and eat in restaraunts by next year. I would like to be able to drive in a car with someone and be able to move to Phoenix for my teaching job and move in with my boyfriend. I want to enjoy meeting new people and make new friends. I think it's a good idea Emma to give ourselves a full year. That gives me time to do the program a couple of times and really work on my limitations to where I get comfortable. So I am going to do that too! =P By next JUNE! I hope to accomplish most if not all of these goals!

Making lists is a great way to put things in perspective and set realistic goals. I know when I do my lists it puts me in a more positive frame of mind. My goals for the year are:

Enjoy going back to school in the fall for medical assisting. I'd really like to get into women's health. It will be a big step for me to get back into a school setting.

Treat my body/mind with the love and respect I treat others. I often take myself for granted in order to support other people - it's time I learned to support myself!

I'm also hoping that I can get into a regular exercise routine and save some money. I had a lot of trouble with spending money I didn't have or shouldn't have, so that's something I am definitely working on now.

Good luck to everyone with their goals - if we set our minds to it, we can do anything! :)
