Hi,

there is definately a link between too little sleep and anxiety. When we are tired and our body is fatigued we get symptoms like shakiness, jitteriness, and racing thoughts. Many of the symptoms of fatigue mimic panic/anxiety reactions and make those of us with anxiety worse!!! I have a few things that seem to work for me as far as helping me to sleep. I usually start getting into a sleep routine a couple of hours before I'm going to go to bed. I listen to the program, then I do the relaxation CD, and then I will drink some chamomile tea and read right before bed. The chamomile tea really helps. Are you having problems going to sleep or staying asleep?

Are you on any meds to help you stay asleep? Some things that help me stay asleep are listening to a relaxation CD right before bed. Also, chamomile tea helps me go to sleep, and stay asleep. Also, my therapist told me you need to pick a time in the evening before bed and sit down and just allow yourself time to worry. Write it down, get it out and just worry. The key is though, you pick how long you worry for, and then LET it GO. I know it sounds easier said then done, but it really gives me a sense of empowerment to do this. Another good relaxation idea is Lavender. Lavender calms the mind. Sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night too, I will get up and read something either relaxing or inspirational. Also, melatonin is a all natural alternative to try. It does not give you medicine head and it wears off naturally after about 6-8 hours. Just remember, the middle of the night is probably not when we do our best soul searching!! :)
