hello everyone. hope ya'll are having a wonderful day. I am 40 years old and have had anxiety most of my life. most if it comes from my horrible experances as a child. I grew up living in fear and that is the way i have spent most of my life until now. I just finally got a diagnosis from a good therapist as having post tramatic stress syndrome, from an incident that happened when i was 16 years old. He has suggested a treatment called EMDR.Has anyone ever heard of this and does it really work as good as i've heard it does?? I am currently on xanax xr .5 twice a day. can't wait to get off these things, i hate the way they make me feel.

I had several sessions of this type of therapy done and it worked very well for me. It didn't work for just generalized anxiety, but only on a specific event or events that had caused the PTS. I was very happy with the outcome.

I agree with Mary that EMDR works well with specific types of trauma. I have never undergone this type of treatment, but from what I have read and heard, it can be very effective for working through and recovering from past traumas. I suggest doing a little research. Just type EMDR into any search engine and something should pop up that helps explain it to you. Good luck!
