What does office politics mean to you, and how do you deal with it?

SongWriter... can you elaborate a little on your question? Are you talking about co-workers that brown-nose constantly?

Thanks,

Beau7

Yes, I'm talking about co-workers who brown nose, and stab me in the back.
I usually keep to myself. I want to be more out going and positive. I feel I have to play the phony game. I know I shouldn't feel this way.

Hello SongWriter. The joys of office politics (not!) I love my work but not always my job. I am a health care worker (pathology) and my particular lab has what many would consider a toxic and poisonous environment with hostile at times soap opera like drama. It is a major source of stress at times. Some days it feels like Communist China, censorship and all. Today was an example. At this time I am in no position to search for and take another job. I fear that office politics is a reality of being a professional. I hate it as do most thiking and feeling intelligent people. Work can bring out the worst in people. The lack of common sense and humanity can get ridiculous. You should definitely watch the movie Office Space.

At my work there are some people who do nothing but claim to do everything. I think the key is to just do your thing and try to ignore those that you don't agree with. There are days when I just want to scream but most of the time I think about my experience and how much overall that I really enjoy my job. What I'm learning, my benefits and most of coworkers are great :0)
