Hey guys last night before I was going to sleep I started to have severe chest pains on my left side. It felt as though someone was stabbing me I'm only 27 but afraid because my family has a history of heart problems. I don't know if this is from stress or what. Please give me some advice.

I would have the chest pains checked out by a cardiologist just rule out any cardiac issues. Granted you are young for this, but I definitely recommend playing it safe.

I am 43, and have gone through the same thing. I have made numerous trips to the ER, had blood tests, chest x-rays, and EKGs done--thank God all normal. I wore a heart-monitor in a halter for 24 hrs. I have stress tests done and a nuclear stress test done last year. Everything, everything was normal.

My father died @ 77 as a result of a heart attack. Already having anxiety and adding his passing, I began to worry about getting a heart attack, being 30 years younger than him.

What greatly and immensely reduced my health anxiety was the nuclear stress done. This is considered the best test to detect heart trouble. They are expensive and the insurance companies want to know details for paying for the tests. Mine was because I had another ER trip and my cardio got me the test the next day after the ER visit.

For me, the chest pains are due to either anxiety, reflux, or costochondritis. This is a condition that causes chest pain due to inflammation of the cartilage and bones in the chest wall.

Go to a cardiologist, get tested, and go from there. Hope this helps.
