Advice please!
Hello everyone!Well I'm dealing with a problem associated with my anxiety right now that I just can't seem to get it under control. It's taking a shower.I make myself take one everyday even if I'm panicking before I get in.I ride out the feelings which are I get off balanced in the shower. The thing that confuses me is I don't give into the fears I push through it but it's still controlling me.This has been going on for about a year now.Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to start controlling this?I can think of nothing that would cause me to react this way in the shower except my "big fear"is passing out.I've made great progress here and there but like I said I can't seem to break through this one.Any advice would be great.Thank you!

This may seem silly, but have you considered a shower chair? My girlfriend had to use one when she broke her knee.
All my best.
I don't think it sounds silly at all...quite the contrary. It's a brilliant idea and is often used for people with many issues or problems who like to take showers.
Kudo's to you!!!
Fear not,
Know what you mean. I had that same problem for a few years and never realized that it's quite common with anxiety. There are several other posts on this site about it.
But, fear not. you can overcome it. Just takes a little time and effort.
Have you eaten breakfast before you shower? It helps to keep our blood sugar on a even keel when we know we're facing something that may increase our anxiety. Just a first step.
Also, try saying to yourself over and over again OUT LOUD "I am my own safe place, and I'll be OK"
And it might take LOTS of times repeating this. No big deal.
Keep in mind the six steps to put an end to panic attacks from session 2.
And most important. BREATHE. Slowly. 2 in and 4 out. Do this in between you "I am my own safe place" mantra. It does help.
Be very patient with yourself.
It's not an overnight recovery, but one day you'll be standing in the shower, taking your time, and say "WOW, I'm comfortable and relaxed and enjoying my shower!!!!" I did it!
You'll get there.
Hugs.

I can really relate to this problem.
In the shower I would be dizzy and I kept feeling like I would fall over. I felt so unbalanced. I would take my showers of course but I was so unstable in there. I dreaded it because I really felt like I was falling at times.
I live in an apt.
So I requested to the management that they put
safty bars in my bathtub. It took them awhile to get around to it but they finally did.
When I would feel unsteady in the shower I would hold on to those bars.
It really helped.
I am glad to say that I don't feel so off-balanced and light-headed as I did. But I still like those bars in there.
I think that a shower chair is a very good idea.
Hope you get better soon.
