In the humor section there is a very humorous thread that helps me to laugh at my anxious episodes and has helped me to lighten up about it ("Denice's attacking anxiety program"). I wanted to share how I used this method of laughing at myself to control anxiety. I went to a class reunion the other night. The other women there were completely immersed in themselves and I felt basically ignored. I began to feel a bit anxious. For a moment though, I took a step back, and observed the situation from afar. Suddenly, I saw women who were insecure. I pictured myself freaking out because these women were ignoring me, and realized how ridiculous it was, and how I am worth so much more than their approval. I chuckled to myself, and floated through the next hour with barely any anxiety. It's not always easy to laugh at ourselves especially when we have anxiety, but sometimes if we put the situation in a bit of a different light, it can help.
