One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house.

Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.

In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went.

He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"

She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and ask me what in the world did I do today?"

"Yes" was his incredulous reply.

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

I would love to have one day where I can just leave the mess and mayhem wherever it lands! With 7 kids the house would look like total destruction only after 2 days! LOVED the post!! :)

Thanks for sharing! I leave the house dirty now because it used to stress me out to much. By the time my 2 year old was playing in our 1100 sq. foot house and then my 11 year old would bring out his video game systems, etc. the house would be a mess. My husband is very sloppy too, leaving dirty plates, cups, and socks, everywhere. I finally gave up.

I wish I could sometimes just get over being so anal about how messy the kids are!! Sometimes I get so anxious just by seeing their toys on the floor!! With 3600 sq feet to move about in, you would think that the mess is more spread out and shouldn't bother me so much. Wrong!!

Ok, that makes me feel better because I want to add on to our house, but I am currently on disability and I think that if our house was bigger then we would have more room to put things and the baby would have his own room, so the mess would not be in one central area. Wow you have a big house. Good for you. Try to be a little less anal about the house, I know its sooooooooooooooo hard it took me years, lots of fights with my husband and lots of headaches. I got a new cleaning lady, she did an awesome job, but she was way to expensive, but I loved having a clean house to come home to which made me happy enough to invite friends over. Do you not invite people over if your house is not clean enough? I definately do that, I am really trying to work on that.
