Does anyone have a technique for stopping a person from playing a thought over and over again?

I am an obsessive thinker but have always played good thoughts.

These bad ones have been stuck for quite sometime and are creating stress and anxiety for me.

I don't know if this will work for you, but this is what I do: I tell myself Okay, you are doing it again. Just the activity of telling myself puts a spotlight on the behavior, and helps me stop it. If it's a real circular thought, I will look in the mirror and tell myself I'm still doing it. The verbal and visual cue are helpful. Anyway, this works for me. May not help you at all.

Yes, just let it be there. The is the best solution. It will go away so long as you "play it down"

The thought will keep coming, so long as you keep making it such a nuisance for being there in the first place. You have a strong emotional reaction to these thoughts and they will continue to come as long as you keep testing yourself and believing they are significant. Let the thoughts and the feeling come. Accept them for what they are. Only thoughts. You shouldn't be bluffed by a thought.
