I am 46 years old and have worked in a family business for 29 years. Due to hard times we are selling our business and I am having to apply for work for the first time ever. I am working on session 3 of the program but this has me very anxious. I wake every morning with this on my mind and I go to sleep with this. I know that I am to be compassionate with myself and I am trying but the "fear of the unknown" is so real for me. Please help!

Hi CGS,

Boy looking for a job is very scary these days and at your and my age I am 50 and I just got my hour cut from 40 to 24 aweek and I too fear having to apply for a job at my age and with no skills on paper other then always woking. The company I work for now bought out our company I work for 17 years but the new company did not grandfater me in so of course with times like these I will be the first to go if need be. So I really fee your pain. If possible may a friend thru you bussiness could find you a job its easyer to get a job thru someone you know or thru someone you know, the competion is pretty high these days. I will pray for you be positive something will come along. My sister has her own bussiness to and it's failing also she will soon be in your shoes. Keep your ears and eyes open to contacts you have had in years you been in bussiness.

Good Luck

Hi cgs,

I understand how you feel. I was a stay at home Mom with kids for 13 years when my marriage suddenly ended. I found myself looking for work as I had three kids to support. I went to a women's support service in my area and took a week long networking course. I actually found a job through someone I met there. I was very scared my first day on the job. My legs were actually shaking. I had no computer experience and had to learn on the job. It worked out very well though as I've been with my company for nine years now.
