I'm 21 yrs old and I get frequent heartburn daily and I tend to get anxiety over it , thinking there's something wrong with my heart. I was wondering could chewing tobacco be a factor to it? I know its a gross habit, but I've been doing it for about 3 years now and it's been an everyday thing for about 2 years so I was wondering if that could be the main cause of it. alcohol also makes it worse and lasts for days at a time.

Yes, Nicotine actually makes the spinther muscle relax more and that allows the reflux to come up. I have it too. My dr. gave me some literatue explaining how nicotine physicaly makes it worse.

Yes, nicotine plays a big part in both acid reflux and other symptoms of anxiety. I have been a casul smoker for abt 7 years and what I have noticed is that when I ceased smokin gor even decided to just cut back both, the acid reflux and intensity of my anxiety decreased. We all know addiction is powerful, so its easier said than done. But worth a try. My dioctor recommended a non rx way to help with reflux is to prop your bed up with bricks or books to make the headboard higher so you sleep @ an upward angle. This stops the acid from flowing to your chest when you lay flat at night. THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!
