I am a Christian and lately I have been having trouble praying. My mind is racing and wandering and I just give up...it's such a struggle. When I can't pray I get angry, because I know and believe how important it is to have God in my life right now. I don't know if anyone will have advice, but I think I'm just venting because I'm afraid of what will happen to me if I don't pray. Any comments besides try to relax would be great, cause if already tried relaxing prior to praying.

RRY11 are you trying to follow some kind of ideal way to pray in your mind?
If I try to over-concentrate or pray for a long period of time it usually backfires on me.
I have conversations between the Lord and myself throughout the day, and sometimes pray in spurts as opposed to very long prayers since I often have a very short attention span.
So whichever way you do it, the Lord will take notice, He knows your heart and even knows your needs before you pray them. What is important is that you are giving him praise.

hi RRLY 11,
Im new here but i have delt with out of control thoughts many times. I exactly how you feel. When i would get my attacts my mind felt like it was going crazy. I was getting negative thoughts and at the same time trying to think good things. So i would began to pray. At the same time these things were racing in my mind which made it seem impossible to pray. Sometimes that happens, and its normal in these situations. Jesus even experienced this in the garden before he was going to be delivered to the cross. In Mark 14:32 jesus was praying and said to the disciples " my soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death" then he went to pray that the cup would pass from him. Did you know jesus experienced the worst of all anxieties? I belive that we will never experience that anxiety that he experienced in the garden. In Lukes gospel it says that jesus being in agony prayed more ernestly and that drops of blood like sweet came down from his face. Jesus had a reason to be like that. Its not his death on the cross that he was afraid of. He was afraid of that fact that God would forsake him and place our sins on him. Jesus would become a curse for us. And for three hours jesus would suffer and there would be complete darkness at mid day. Take heart that you or me will never go through this type of anxiety. Becuase God forsake jesus at the cross, God will never forsake us becuase jesus took our place.
You need to understand that jesus is always with you, even when you dont feel it. Keep praying (not just that God would help you, but also pray " your will be done") And i promise his will is not to harm you but his will is to purge fear out of your heart and mind and replace it with faith) thats what he is doint, it seems never ending but I DOES PASS. YOu know i have learned that i get calmer and calmer and began to take control of my thoughts when i get these events. At first its very hard. I know, but persevere and you will see that Jesus is teaching and training you not to be fearful or anxious. Sorry so long. but hope it helps. Its truth. And truth will set you free. our anxieties and worries are untruth. Remember what jesus said" If you abide in My word, you are my disciples, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31

Just allow the words to flow straight from your heart!!! God is not one bit interested in long drawn out prayers...What He is interested in is what words come straight from your heart...
Talk to God as you would a very dear friend...Don't even think about what you are going to say...Talk to Him in just plain simple language!!!
The Bible says that God hears our faintest cries, and that a book of remembrance was written for those who thought upon His name...
I think you need to watch this video...Here is the site...
