You and your family will be in my prayers. Sometimes God is blessing us in ways that we don't understand. Remember 1 thing, God is always trying to get us where we need to be, and not always where we want to be. He has the master plan, we try to make our own but he will keep us on track. All thing happen for a reason. Good Luck, Stay Strong, and may health and understanding be blessed upon you and your family.

Cris in NY - Have you checked out debt management programs? After we lost our home, we had some of our mortgage debt follow us (2nd mortgage - heloc). We almost went into bankruptcy, but were relieved to find a debt management program that will do the same thing as bankruptcy without destroying our credit. There are some who will only handle credit card debt, but we found one that will handle all of our debt issues. In case you are interested, their name is "Heritage Debt Relief". Their phone number is 800-406-6624. There may be others that you might check out too.
Melissa - This may be helpful to your situation as well. Don't know how they are dealing with the nation's housing crisis, but it might be worth checking out.
And for anyone who is going through this housing crisis like we did, keep in mind that you/we are not alone. There are a lot of people that have made the same mistakes and are going through the same struggle. Don't beat yourself up. Let go and let God.
Good luck - Eileen

Melissa,
I am a strong believer that with faith in the Lord ALL things are possible. I was given some bad news today, don't want to get into it right now, but I know that when we cry out to the Lord he hears. Like some others have already said, when one door shuts the Lord has another open. Maybe you aren't suppose to be where you are any longer. I know loosing anything is hard exspecially a home, but the Lord ALWAYS provides for His children. It will all work out for you no matter what. By the grace of the Lord and Jesus dieing on the cross we are all healed.
Lord God, please Lord give Melissa and her family stength in this struggling time in their lives. I pray that you will give them wisdom to know what to do and that you will give them courage to move in the direction that you want them in. Lord give her a huge peace in her situations and show her family and herself that you are always in control and you hear her prayers and you know her needs. Lord I ask this in your mighty name, Lord Jesus, amen.

WOW! Sorry Melissa. I will pray for you and yours. God DOES have better plans for you. I am surprised that with your husbands medical issue that the bank is not willing to work with you. One banker told us that people that are facing foreclosure because interest rates jumped sky high KNOW they cannot pay, look for another less expensive home, get the loan on that, take the keys to the old house and just mail it to the bank to avoid foreclosure. (it is called "jingle mail") Not sure what the laws are by you, but this is what a banker in Illinois told us.
Most of todays foreclosures are because greedy banks got people in over their heads with these "adjustable" mortgages that people NEVER would be able to afford in 3, 4, or 5 years (of the famous balloon mortgage), now US taxpayers are going to bail out these bank crumbs while they still collect their pay, benefits and bonuses and live in their cozy homes when their customers and their families are losing their homes. Shameful! This is the worst crime in history and those banking crumbs are getting away with it. OUR government also is to blame for this mess as they did NOTHING to stop it. Those bankers that gave loans to persons that clearly would be unable to afford the adjustable mortgages and screwed the people that wanted the American dream;these people just wanted a home for their family.
Melissa, I am not sure where you live but I hope that there are resources in your area that can help you, whether church, state or local government. Even if you can make some payments the bank may be willing to work with you. Back in the early 80's, my father lost his job and we almost lost our home too. My mom worked out payments and the bank was receptive to my moms willingness to pay. (my mom paid the priniciple for several months until my father was employed again. He was out of work for about 2 years.) We were one payment away from losing our home.
Prayers to you!

Yes God will provide. We lost our home last year. Actually, we were able to avoid foreclosure because we finally sold it after 10 months and going through 60k in 401K money. In the end we filed bankruptcy because of a lawsuite against us and our business that we sold. . .long story.
But, the good news is this. We're renting and both have jobs we enjoy now and we're starting over. We are completely fine. I thought it was the end of the world but it's not. The bankruptsy was not something I wanted to do, but because the people that bought the business basically screwed us over. . .and then out-lawyered us and accused us of fraud, bankruptsy was the only way to avoid a $1million law suit.
I don't say all this to make anyone feel bad for me. . . I say it because I thought the world was coming to an end.
And now, a year later, I'm happier than I have been in years. It really made us re-evaluate what was important. We worked on our marriage and refocused on God, our family, the kids. . .and it's fine.
And actually in this economy renting is fine with me. If one or both of us lose our jobs (hubby had been out of work after the business failed for several months too) then we can just move. . . no need to sell.
It all works out if you keep the faith.
Take care,
