Need help and prayers with work and organization
I think my anxiety increases because I am not the most organized person. I can get overwhelmed when I wake up in the morning thinking about everything I have to do that day. At work. I have so much information to keep track of and I forget a lot of stuff.
I can get overwhelmed because of the have too's.
Then when I miss something I beat myself up. If I am behind in paperwork I don't feel good either. Add the fact that my workload is high and trying to get everything done in 40 hrs is difficult.
I work in an office where there are people coming in and out and a lot of noise and I have trouble staying focused. I have trouble tuning out when people are talking around me. I am social and don't want to be a hermit and like to talk but I am having trouble staying organized, focused on the task with so many interruptions.
I don't want to do extra work on Saturdays. becuase I want to have a life. Can any one relate? to being pushed and pulled by external and internal pressure.
Plus I am a people pleaser, perfectionist, and have performance anxiety and worry about how I am perceived. Sometimes I'm only as good as my latest "success" which is ludicrous to base how I feel about myself, on how I think I am doing in my own or others eyes.
Any advice would be great,. I covet everyones prayers or thanks for just listening.

Hi Nick,
Your description could easily be of me. From what I understand, the characteristics are typical of someone with anxiety. Though it seems to me that most people that I work with have trouble lot of people have trouble getting everything done in 40 hours. However, some people are a lot better at not sweating it. Usually, things can wait and a lot of deadlines are not really deadlines.
One organization thought to try...
Try making a to do list, prioritizing your list daily, updating this list at the end of the day with what you accomplished and don't forget to add in all the items you accomplished that were not on your list at the start of the day, but had to make their way to the top of the list. Hopefully this will give you a sense of accomplishment every day and you can also go back to this if you are asked what you have been working on.
I have not made it far though the program myself, but there are tools in the program designed to help with worry, unrealistic expectations, and self esteem.
I will pray for you.
Beth

Nick I can't give any advice or really relate to your position. But I can certainly sympathise, and can ofer prayers . In fact since I've been participating in this forum i pray for everyone who writes in. As I really need prayers myself. However I am doing better, I have my sister staying with me for a month so that helps. especially now , as my best friend is dying and Drs. don't know what she has. They figure is some kind of auto-imune disease. She is on a respirator now. Do the program the best you can and try to slow down
Hi Nick and Beth,
I think that Nick's behaviour is actually quite representative of the majority of the U.S. population. These days we are all pushed by external cues to be the best, work harder, work smarter, excel, continually achieve, to soar to new heights, be social, look good, feel good - ALL THE TIME! If we want to JUST BE, we are considered lazy, stupid, or both.
As soon as you accept that all as CRAP, you will feel much better about yourself and your life. As soon as you realize that what is really important is not that missing memo, what other people think about you because you missed that "team building" coffee clatch, that just BEING is fine, and that fully and truthfully appreciating life's small precious moments, THEN you will feel better!
And yes, lists help, I personally have about ten in various areas of my house. I get the stuff done, but I get it done on my own time, not someone else's perception of when it should be done.
Blessings to you both,
Tracy

Nick,
As Beth said, I can completely relate. Like you, I really struggle to stay focused and manage time to the best of my ability. This may sound odd, but I had a Christain colleague tell me that when she is really pressed for time, she asks God to stretch it for her.
Ever since she suggested this, I've prayed for the same in tight situations, and God has ALWAYS honored this request. I've also asked for focus and discipline, and, again, my needs are met. Every morning I ask the Lord to accompany me to work and be my strength, and on the way home, I thank Him for getting me through the day.
While I am VERY thankful for this program (I just started and am on week 2), it's been sheer FAITH that has sustained me thus far.
Again, like you, I am also a perfectionist and am overly concerned about others' perception of me. One skill I've been working hard on is simply saying to myself, "Who really cares???" What's imperfect to me, is superior to many others. I suspect this is true of you, too. Most workaholics are perfectionists, and unfortunately, we get praised for this vice. In turn, this only sets higher and more unrealistic expectations for ourselves.
I've found that I get far more done if I get to work even 1/2 hr. earlier or stay 1/2 hr. later than everyone else. Thankfully, I have a classroom, and I sometimes simply shut and lock the door (despite being a social butterfly).
Lastly, like Beth said, making a list is helpful. I always try (it doesn't always get done) to clean off my desk and leave a "To Do" list for the next day. It feels so much better walking into a clean, organized workspace and knowing exactly what NEEDS to get done for that day. Whatever doesn't get done goes on the top of the following day's list.
And yes, I agree 100%- weekends are time for ourselves and family. I'm working on this one too.
Hope this was a little helpful; you're in my prayers, too.

Nick-
How about coming in an hour earlier and beginning your day when no one else is there.
I have found by the time everyone else comes in I will have developed such momentum that I will be finished most of my work early and can socialize later in the afternoon if opportunity arises.
Is there a possibility that you can work from a home office on some days? You may be more productive from home.
My Prayer to God for you:
Heavenly Father, you are Soveriegn and you know everything, I worship and adore you... I lift up Nick before you Lord even now. Begin to speak wisdom to him; for you, Lord, gives wisdom and from out of your mouth comes knowledge and understanding according to the scriptures. I pray that you would show Nick which teaching tape sessions to review and I pray that you would draw Nick closer to you. Ease his mind and grant him peace as he releases his burdens and cares upon you. Show him how to do this... in your precious Son, Jesus Christ name I pray, AMEN!

can totally relate. i too get anxious in the morning with all the things that need to be done. I especially have a hard time putting "me" first in this program. i always find that i cant possibly do the relaxation tapes while that load of laundrey sits waiting, for example. but im working on it. remember the "three A"s" (awareness, acceptance and action) i find that i need to be "aware" of a problem in order to do something about it. then i need to "accept" that i do have problems in areas of my life and not beat up on myself. i need to love and accept who i am. And then comes the "action" (coming fom a much healthier place). working on one area at a time, like maybe the people pleasing part. i have a tough time with that myself especially at work. I just try and stay focused on whats right in front of me and that i can only humanly do so much in a certain amount of time.
someone gave me the 3 "A"s a long time ago. i sure hope it made sense.
BE GOOD TO YOURSELF. YOU DESERVE IT.

Hey Tigs,
Have you tried playing the relaxation CD as background noise while you get other things done? I listen to it every morning while I'm getting ready for work, and even though I obviously can't physically do some of the exercises, it does seem to get my day off to a more calm and positive start.

Thank You all so much for your prayers. I can feel them. It is encouraging to know that people care about me, and want me to be successful.
Oh that the Lord would set me free from worry, and set me on a high place.
