Overcoming the Anticipatory anxiety

Post by dan12001 » Tue Sep 06, 2011 8:27 pm

Hi everyone,

Coming into this session I'd already noticed that anticipatory anxiety was a major problem for me. I found myself purposely getting up late in the morning so as not to have time to think about it. My biggest problem is that I get major facial flushes when I'm in anxious situations and it can be very uncomfortable. This is primarily what I worry about in the anticipatory stage. I like the idea of the positive "what ifs" but does anyone have other things they do to help deal with anticipatory anxiety?

Have you tried positive visualization? It's really helpful to picture yourself in the situation, handling it in a positive way. It's a wonderful thing to do before something that you are anxious about. Every time the situation pops into your head, try to picture yourself handling it in a positive, confident way.
