step 5 and stopping

Post by pepsilover » Mon Sep 19, 2011 2:52 pm

I found working this program was too much for me, caused me more anxiety. 5 cd's a day, read workbook, write every negative feeling, expect less, exercise, go grocery shopping and stressed to buy different things, Breathe deep all day as much as possible, journal, And try and do my regular things. Oh and don't forget to read the note cards. I had my doctor put me on Busbar, increase my valium. Everyone who knew me said I was over doing it, that my intire focus all day long was my anxiety because I was constantly being reminded of it because of all the things I had to do in the program. And that I was running myself into the ground, so wore out I lost 37 lbs. during the time.
I found a new councelor who specialises in anxiety, and an anxiety support group. I pray, I cry alot, I quit caffiene and sugar, if I feel I need to exercise I do, if not I rest alot, sleep alot, call and talk to someone, and do more fun things which has helped. I'm trying to take my focus off my condition and let time pass. Because that's what it really takes. Something caused it, rest and relaxation and time will remove it.
Any comments????

Don't stop!!! I have had IBS, Anxiety, Panic for 20 years and I can tell you that trying to not think about it, trying to be stress free or relaxing doesn't make it go away!!! I've tried for 20 years!! This is helping me. I don't do everything all at one time. I go at my own pace. Believe it or not, no matter if you think you aren't thinking about anxiety, you are. It never goes away. That's why I'm trying this program. It's helping. I just wrote a whole thing and hit the wrong key and it deleted so I'm having to write it all over again. I use a calendar. I put "listen to cd 1" on this day and "listen to cd 3" on this day, etc. This helps. If I don't listen to it, no biggie. I don't beat myself up over it. Look at it this way, when starting something new like a job for instance, there is so much to learn and do that can be overwhelming. But once you get what needs to be done you start organizing and prioritizing. Then you get your groove and it become a habit and you don't have to think so much about it and worry about it. The difference is that you don't have anyone over you timing you. Go at your own pace. If I don't do anything else, I listen to the CD's. Journaling? Not a lot but I try. I look the work book about once a week. More if I have time or if I feel like it. I think the reason behind the do this and that within a week is so that people don't get bored or so that it keeps us focused much like going to school. I may not be saying things the right way. Also, if I don't know the answers or I can't think of negative things I've said, I just leave it and go back to it. Please, keep trying just slow down even if it takes you 2 or 3 weeks to get through chapter 1. Just slow down. But put it on the calendar which reminds you and helps you stay on some kind of routine. Look at this as its hope and help and set your mind that you will get through it.

Don't give up! I started this program about a year ago, than I put it down for MONTHS... just picked it back up again, reviewed CD's/workbook 1-4 and now I am working on 5, and moving forward with the program again. Go at your own pace and enjoy the journey. I'm just thankful putting the tools I have learned with the program so far to practice has made an improvement in my life to the positive. Good luck to you, things will calm them selves down with practice and time =)
