anyone know if caffeine free soda and coffee is really caffeine free? Is it OK to drink these everyday? What about the sugar substitute, is that also as bad sugar, will it make a person jittery?

Thanks!

Hey there, sugar substitutes don't seem to be any good for our body either, I'd rather just have some regular sugar than any substitute. Soda I've heard can be caffeine free, But decaf coffee is not caffeine free. It has much less caffeine in it, but they can't grind (extract) all the caffeine out of the coffee beans. Take care....Chief

Hi mlrb. I agree with the cheif on caffeine but not on the sugar issue. There's no proof on whether sugar substitutes are bad for you and It's actually better for you If you have anxiety or depression because sugar-substitutes don't spike your bloodsugar like table sugar. Table sugar is what was causing a lot of my anxiety. It causes so many of the symptoms we're trying to get rid of. Go to the program and read the nutrition section. Better yet, Go and ask your doctor.

Take care.

I'm from the side of the camp that believes the sugar substitutes are far more dangerous than real sugar in moderation. When I want a cup of coffee, I drink decaf. I have heard there's a little bit of caffeine in the decaf but the small amount doesn't seem to bother me. Tea doesn't bother me either as long as I don't overdo it. If I get a cup of real coffee by mistake, I sure know it. It takes about 15 minutes and POW, I'm buzzing.

Hi Craw. I do understand the fears that people have when it comes to sugar substitutes. But can't go around being afraid of something that nobody can say for sure is bad for you. When you said that you know when you've had a cup of real coffee because in about 15 minutes POW you're buzzing; that's what sugar do to me. It only takes 15 minutes to know that it was too much. That's not a good thing when you have anxiety.

Take care.

Hi DeeDee,
It has already been proven the substitutes are dangerous and I very firmly believe it. I've had them by accident a few times because my Dad is such a big fan of them (he's diabetic) and it tastes nasty. :p Hope you weren't trying to change my mind about them. ;)

Thanks for asking that question! I didn't know the answers but got some by looking at these posts. Guess I won't drink decaf anymore! Water will be fine!I really can't say I feel anxious after sugar. Does anyone else think that, or am I just not realizing the effects.

Greetings -- I don't think the minute amounts of caffeine in these diet sodas is significant. I too, though, worry about the sugar substitutes. Furthermore, the acid in any of the sodas over time wil eat away at the enamel on your teeth. Perhaps decaf tea and coffee is best and water is also good.
