One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside of all people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil.
It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good.
It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.'

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'
The old Cherokee simply replied,
'The one you feed.'

Think about this long and hard. Once you grasp this concept and start changing your thinking habits, you will be on the fast track to full recovery!

This is an awesome story...i read something like this in a book once about the battles that we fight during our lifetime only thing is these battles must be won in our hearts and minds. I think i might print this out too as a great reminder. thanks don!!!

Thanks for the post Don. Sometimes the wise wins out.

I love the folk lore like this. Can be very inspirational and a great motivator..

Wow....it touched me this morning. I was haveing some anxiety this morning, and this really helped me pick myself back up and finish the day anxiety free!!

thanks! It is so easy to feed our anger, envy , and most of all self-pity daily. I am also on week 3 of the program and find it hard to carry a book around to write my negative thoughts, I feel like I hardly have any time to finish my tapes between taking care of my family. I have been posting reminders and positive thoughts that helps. I will also print this!

Thanks Don- I've never read this tale before and it really struck me. Isn't it interesting how a person can essentially hear the same thing phrased slightly differently and have an epiphany? (Does that even make sense?)

Here's an ex.- all of us have heard the"flight or fight" scenerio for anxiety. About a month ago I went in to my acupressurist and he asked what instigated my anxiety. I rattled off a handful of scenerios, the last being a prof that I will be working with this fall. Even though I knew (and liked) him from undergrad, I'm TOTALLY intimated (and scared!) by him now- 13 years older and WISER.

Here was his (my acupressurist's) analogy:
There are two kinds of people- rabbits and tigers. Tigers are strong and powerful; rabbits timid and easily startled. Clearly, if a tiger sees a rabbit, it will devour it. My prof is like a tiger preying on my uncertainity. I need to show my confidence/competence to level the "playing field." Bottom line- he has the knowledge I want, while I have the $ the University needs to maintain his position. ...kind of like the alpha dog rule.

Ok- it's late, I'm tired, and I just reread what I wrote and don't even know if I understand it, but I'm going to post it anyway (recovering perfectionist [yes, poor sent. structure, too]). Maybe someone else will be able to connect the dots... ;*)
