Re: Depression and anger

This is often one of my negative thoughts as well and it can be very depressing. I tell myself the truth which in this case is something like: progress isn't linear, sometimes it's forward and other times you stagnate but you're progressing because you're trying and you will get better. Also, realiz...

Re: Assertiveness and Gender-Part 2

Hi Nice Gal, You bring up a great point! I also feel the same way about my relationship with my father.. he was the quiet type, but he'd have explosive bouts of anger (probably where I learned that bad habit from) unpredictably. I think a lot of this program has to do with self-talk and the message ...

Re: moving along

I can really identify with what you're saying. For a long time I had the hardest time with criticism, even when it was meant to be constructive. I think this has to do with our desire to seem perfect and in control at all times.. if people critique us (which is valid in a work environment) than they...

Re: Its been 6 years - should i do the program again?Im a me

If the program helped you a lot the first time, I imagine it'll do the same if you do it again. This is CBT and requires that we continue training our minds to think in ways that eliminate anxiety and depression, otherwise we fall back to our negative habits. I wanted to say that I sympathize with y...

I'm not a doctor, but can tell you that she needs to see one.. it's imperative. Have someone close to her insist on this. It sounds like she may be schizophrenic, which can be treated with medication. Whatever she has, she is a danger to herself and others if she doesn't get checked out.

I just finished session 5 and am excited to try eating less sugar as I know that, that's my stimulant. Already exercise and totally agree with Lucinda that it brings me out of many bad moods.

Cool song.. I also liked the Perfect Sonnet by that same guy. You might like a band called Blue October.. lots of great songs ('hate me today' and 'x amount of words' make me feel like I'm not alone in this)

Sexual Abuse

Has anyone else currently in the program endured sexual abuse? I just wonder how much it has affected me, in terms of my anxiety and if healing from that will take care of a lot of my anxiety? Anyone else have some experience with this?

Re: still struggling with religion

Hey Dragging Sticks, I'm in a similar place, or used to be. I wondered if I was being punished with, was I demon-possessed, why wasn't God answering my prayers, etc. I grew up in a fundmentalist Christian home and everyone just seemed to think that I needed to pray more.. that attitude wasn't very h...

Re: I never noticed all this negativity...until now

There is a lot of negativity around us. I think people are afraid to think positively.. because it might show that we're vulnerable. It's easier to complain about everything and have a lousy attitude than to be positive and risk hurt of any sort. Great that you're having 'aha' moments!
